Oh heeey, I’m Dana. A 20-something, fun-sized crossfiter, yogi and food lover who loves to make people laugh (mostly at me). I’m an Integrative Health Coach and graduate student in Nutrition, working to heal my body with real food and a paleo lifestyle, one delicious meal at a time.
Welcome! Thanks for stopping by Real Food with Dana. Here you’ll find paleo-inspired, real food recipes I’m sharing on my journey from what felt like rock-bottom illness to health. Plus some nutrition & health tips, sarcasm, horrible puns, and multiple Mean Girls quotes.
So here’s my food philosophy: Life’s too short to eat boring, tasteless food.
I started Real Food with Dana to inspire you to get up off your butt, to try something new that just might blow your taste buds. To show you that cooking healthy food can be simple, fun, delicious, and healing, all at the same time! That’s why I really got into cooking in the first place. In the midst of dealing with a ton of health conditions, I realized I could help heal myself by eating REAL food, instead of the processed junk that makes people sick. But ain’t nobody got time to eat plain chicken breast and spinach day after day. I wanted to prove to myself that eating “real food” doesn’t have to be tasteless, difficult or complicated, and that I didn’t have to feel deprived despite the long lists of foods I was avoiding for my health.
When I’m not cooking or thinking about what I want to cook next, I’m usually being active in some way. My drug of choice is crossfit, but I also love yoga, hiking, skiing, was a competitive swimmer for 16 years (that makes me feel super old), ran a half marathon in 2013 (stupid. stupid. stupid idea.)…you get the point. I’m an exercise junkie. The good kind. I like to sing…in my car. Oh and sometimes I like to dance, mostly in socially appropriate settings (not just in my room) but that usually ends in me making a fool of myself. And if you haven’t figured it out already, I can quote Mean Girls like it’s my job.
Thanks for hanging out – Now let’s go eat some tasty food! Want to know more about my health journey? Check out My Story, My struggle with adrenal fatigue, or Recovery: my adrenal fatigue story, part II.
In 2013 I decided I wanted to pursue my passion for nutrition and health further, so I enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. Drawing on this knowledge, I’m working with clients to will create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits their unique bodies, lifestyles, preferences, and goals. It’s my mission to make sure the same series of unfortunate events that I experienced does not happen to others by helping them realize how food is a powerful key to prevent illness or achieve great health.
