Pomegranate Ginger Margaritas | Real Food with Dana

HAPPY DECEMBER you guys!! And what better way to celebrate than with some seasonal margaritas? Okay, maybe some holiday cookies…but margaritas are my favorite. These Pomegranate Ginger Margaritas are inspired by some I had at a restaurant by me and they were BOMB so I obviously needed to recreate them for myself I mean for you guys. *obviously*.

Plus, I wanted to make these for my best friend’s birthday. Which happens to be December 1st. And we both happen to be obsessed with margaritas and playing with new, inventive flavors for them. You remember my Mango Lime Margaritas with a Spicy Jalapeno option? Yeah. She helped me make AND shoot those…and test them multiple times until we got them right, duh, just like we did with the Secret Recipe Guacamole and Spicy Mango Guacamole. Because she’s the best. And because it would be weird and questionable if I made a batch of margaritas and drank them for myself. That would not end well.

Also I’m just on a cocktail kick after being in Vegas. Obviously. Did you see my Gluten-Free Las Vegas post? Holy heck, you guys. That spicy strawberry margarita I had the first night was WOAH (you know I love my spicy margaritas.), and then the second night, we had a cocktail that was made with liquid nitrogen (or dry ice? I didn’t ask. FAIL) so it actually SMOKED when you poured the liquid in. SO FREAKING COOL.

Let’s talk about cocktail mixers for a second. Because they are normally 1) gross 2) waaaay too sweet and 3) full of chemical crap that I don’t want to be putting in my body. Seriously. Just go to the grocery store and turn a few of those babies over to the ingredients. And tell me if you recognize any of them as being real except sugar and lime juice. Yeah, didn’t think so. Which is exactly why I wanted to work with Powell and Mahoney Craft Cocktail Mixers on this post, because sometimes, you don’t have everything you want to make a cocktail from scratch – but you don’t want to be putting crap in your body either. Powell & Mahoney mixers are made from purely natural ingredients, like cane sugar, actual fruit juices and extracts, and citric acid (which is just vitamin C). My favorite I’ve tried is the Classic Margarita, but they also have a Mango Passion Fruit Margarita, Peach Bellini, Bloody Mary, Blood Orange, and tons of other delicious sounding mixers too! No junky ingredients involved. I get mine at Giant or Whole Foods, but you can find them almost anywhere!

While I doubt I’ll be making any smoking cocktails any time soon, I can definitely still get down with these Pomegranate Ginger Margaritas. Because they’re just the right amount of spicy from the ginger and sweet from the pomegranate juice.

Prep time
Total time

Dana:
Serves: 1 serving
Ingredients
  • For each margarita:
  • 1.5 oz tequila
  • ½ tsp fresh minced ginger
  • 2 oz Powell & Mahoney Classic Margarita Mix
  • 2 oz pure pomegranate juice
  • A handful or two of ice, plus more for the shaker
  • Lime wedges, for garnish
  • Optional: coconut sugar, for the rim
Directions
  1. Combine the tequila, ginger, Margarita Mix, and pomegranate juice in a cocktail shaker with ice, and shake it up!
  2. Slice one of the lime wedges that you’ll use for garnish down the middle, width-wise, and use it to wet the rim of the glass. Garnish the rim with a little coconut sugar (totally optional, but delicious!)
  3. Fill your glass with ice and pour in your delicious margarita. If you want to get fancy, pour some pomegranate seeds in there!
  4. Drink up!
Notes
Notes: want more pomegranate, less lime? Add more pomegranate juice instead of half the lime margarita mix.
